Remodel of basement laundry room
Design challenge - no windows, 6.5' ceilings without enough joist clearance for canned lights. Basement also had a history of flooding during rainy weather. Solution - Cement walls were fitted with metal studs and then sheetrocked with greenboard with a 2" gap along the cement floor. Plastic baseboard was used to cover the gap and prevent water wicking upwards. Walls and ceiling were painted a bright color to fill the room with light. Cement floor was painted for easy clean up in case of future flooding. Cubbies were built on top of a cement half-wall at the back of the room to put the front load washer/dryer at ergonomic height, as well as under stairway to maximize storage. |
