Remodel of basement laundry room

Design challenge -
No windows, 6.5' ceilings without enough joist clearance for canned lights. Basement also had a history of flooding during rainy weather.

Solution -
Cement walls were fitted with metal studs and then sheetrocked with greenboard with a 2" gap along the cement floor. Plastic baseboard was used to cover the gap and prevent water wicking upwards. Walls and ceiling were painted a bright color to fill the room with light. Cement floor was painted for easy clean up in case of future flooding. Cubbies were built under stairway to maximize storage and on top of a cement half-wall at the back of the room to put the front load washer/dryer at ergonomic height.
